A woman whose fiance died when he fell down a well has insisted on marrying the corpse.
She refused to release the body for cremation until after her on-the-spot wedding ceremony, police said.
"For just few minutes the girl was dressed as a bride and then as a widow," police officer KM Kapadia said in the town of Anand in western India's Gujarat state.
Wedding guests sat the corpse by a fire, the traditional centre of Hindu wedding ceremonies, and chanted marriage prayers before cremating the body.
"The girl refused to give away the body of her lover for the cremation till she tied the knot with him," Kapadia added.
The bride's parents originally opposed the marriage but relented and attended the ceremony.
They gave their 22-year-old daughter Tulsi Devipujak clothes and utensils as gifts, according to the Hindu tradition.
